This Thrifty Thursday, I'm thankful for sunshine, feeling (mostly) better and finding petites at Thrift Town. I probably sound like a shallow Buzzfeed article, and this complaint would definitely be filed under #firstworldproblems, but as a short girl, the struggle is real. Unless I buy petite-sized pants, my legs are going to be drowning in extra length. And finding cute, age-appropriate petite pants is not always easy. The petite section at department stores generally caters to older ladies. So whenever I find a pair of petite pants that meet the fit, style and price categories, I practically do a happy dance in the dressing room. These petite Style & Co. tummy-control jeans from Thrift Town hit all of the criteria, and I want to say I spent $4 on them a few years ago. These same pants were selling at Macys for an original sticker price of $50 when I bought them. Score! Although I can wear regular-size tops, petites definitely fit better. Happy Earth Day! We're celebrating Earth Day by planting a free shade tree from SMUD . I only wish we would have done this five years ago when we moved in, since apparently it takes about five years for the little tree to grow big enough to provide any shade. Oh well. My lifestyle is all about, "Recycle, reduce, reuse ... and close the loop." (You're welcome for putting that song in your head.) A few of the super simple "green" things my husband and I do and recommend include: Using reusable shopping bags. Compared to plastic, reusable bags hold more and are easier to carry. Plus, most stores give a small discount for each bag used. Using reusable water bottles. I simply do not understand buying water in individual bottles -- does not compute in my head. Washing dishes and doing laundry during "off" hours in the late evening to save electricity and save on our bill. We've also had our house weatherized as part of SMUD...

Some girls look forward to February for Valentine's Day. And while I am a fan of the Hallmark holiday, and would hide all of my husband's video games if he forgot it, the first days of February offer their own excitement. This year, February kicks off with Thrift Town's 99 Cent Sweater Sale on Friday, February 1. From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., you can expect Thrift Town to be packed in Sactown with sweater shoppers, so try to get to the store early. I'll be scouring the aisles for some bright-colored cardigans. My last sweater score came from Goodwill on Manzanita in Carmichael. At $5, I couldn't resist this animal-print cardigan. Then on Saturday, February 2, it's Sacramento Museum Day . From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., 28 museums in the Sacramento area offer free admission. Fairytale Town and the Sacramento Zoo offer half-price admission, but in my experience, these venues get so crowded on Museum Day, it's not worth it. Last year, my husband and I we...
